3’s match report v C.H Ladybridge 29.7.18

2 Aug 2018 by Iain Haughey

We welcomed top of the table Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge to a unusual damp Highfield Road. But thankfully the rain subsided and we got away on time with a full 80 over game.
We won the toss and inviting CHL to have a bat, we opened the bowling with Peter Langton and Oliver Farrell. CHL started aggressively before Langton claimed his 1st wicket with a LBW before getting another in his next over Caught Behind by Lucas Newton to leave them 21-2. CHL then recovered slightly before Langton claimed another LBW to leave them 43-3. The two batsmen now at the crease Thanabis (31) and Mathew (70) cut loose taking the score to 120-3 before Haughey took the next 3 wickets including a great catch by Joel Shaw for his 2nd before Adam Cairns returning after his African adventure bowled a good spell taking 2 Wickets and Langton picking up another leaving CHL 150-9. We then let them off the hook as they went on to get 39 runs for the last wicket before Imran Khan finished them off. So they were 189 all out, a score we fancied chasing down. Bowling figures Langton 4-51 Haughey 3-47 Cairns 2-20 Imran 1-11.
We lost the early wicket of Adam Rixon before Imran and Newton steadied the ship taking us to 56-1 before Imran (23) was bowled and a mini collapse as we fell to 75-5 losing the wickets of Newton (28) in fairness to a superb full length diving catch, Bradick and making his debut Ed Lister (welcome to trinity Ed). We then had a Father/Son partnership of 38 to recover a bit up to 113 between Darren and Joel Shaw. Joel who becoming very impressive with the bat top scoring with 35 before we fell to 144 all out despite a gritty 17 from Peter Langton. We might have lost but we learned plenty about field placings against very aggressive batting which we will take with us into our remaining fixtures.
